Revealing nature's potential
in the language of science
Univera has never left the value of aloe vera and natural products to experience alone.
We have carried out long-term research and development to find beneficial compounds, confirm how they work, and turn them into quality standards and products.

Why Univera does research
From the belief that it works
to science that can prove it

For Univera, research is a responsibility:
delivering nature's value to people accurately.
Univera's research began with a single question: which compounds give aloe vera its benefits, and how can that value be delivered to people in full?
Even before clear standards existed, we analyzed aloe vera's compounds and how they act, and studied how its beneficial compounds change during cultivation and processing. The results led to new ingredients, processes, patents and products, and became Univera's own scientific foundation.
The beginnings of aloe vera research
Looking at aloe vera through science for the first time
-
1989Aloe Research Foundation established
To support aloe vera research systematically, Univera established the Aloe Research Foundation (ARF) in the United States. It created a platform where companies, universities and researchers could study aloe vera's compounds and quality standards together.
-
1991Discovery of the E-Peak
Through continued research, we discovered the ‘E-Peak,’ a marker compound layer that verifies the inherent quality of aloe vera. This research helped establish a scientific standard for distinguishing pure aloe vera raw material from low-quality material.
-
1993CAP Project launched
Together with researchers from Korean universities, we launched the CAP (Creation of Aloe Pharmaceuticals) Project, a long-term industry–academia collaboration to identify aloe vera's beneficial compounds and how they work. By linking the isolation of compounds, efficacy validation and quality research, it took aloe vera research to the next level.
CAP Project
A long-term study exploring aloe vera in depth

Years of focused research on aloe vera alone
shaped Univera's standards.
The CAP Project is an industry–academia collaboration launched to isolate aloe vera's beneficial compounds and scientifically confirm how they work. Researchers from fields including pharmaceutical sciences and life sciences took part, carrying out the isolation of compounds, functional research and quality standardization together.
The results went beyond papers and patents, leading to the development of ingredients and products for Health Functional Food and cosmetics. Building on research accumulated over many years, Univera continues to explore the potential of beneficial compounds, including aloe polysaccharides.

From aloe vera to natural products
50 years of research, reaching toward the wider natural world

The science built through aloe vera research
became the foundation for discovering the potential of natural products worldwide.
The compound isolation and analysis technologies accumulated through aloe vera research became the foundation for exploring a wide range of natural products. In 1996, Univera founded Unigen, a natural products research company in the United States, expanding into research that systematically discovers the beneficial compounds of natural products.
Unigen's proprietary research platform, ‘PhytoLogix®,’ links traditional knowledge of plant use with modern scientific data to explore and analyze natural product candidates. Through it, Unigen develops natural product ingredients for use in Health Functional Food, cosmetics and more.
- Natural products research since 1996
- Data collected from 24 countries
- Medicinal plant data 11,000+ species
